Versuch No. 1: Notes and Projects
Edited by Gil Leung, Notes and Projects is about making something because you love something else. In light of this, the first chapter of Versuch is on forms of notation that use preexisting things, for example quotes or other objects, to try to articulate, or just share, that indeterminate quality that can make something so important to us.

VERSUCH Chapter 1: Notes and Projects_Again is about making something because you love something else. This abridged and alternate version of the exhibition will look specifically at a notion of doing things again - as a reading or repetition. The works in themselves deal with this issue of making something through a number of movements and referents. In this sense, the works are transformations between memory and expectation, intention and realisation; performances of another object.

VERSUCH: NOTES AND PROJECTS / EVENT 3:
DAVID RAYMOND CONROY

A Talk (The one that begins with... )
Talk with YouTube Clips
45mins

David Raymond Conroy's talks are an attempt to effectively and sincerely communicate something on the adequacy of expression. We are presented with a selection of various references and parts of works that have some significance to the way in which you could begin to talk about something, or say something. Within each clip there is a certain tension between a formal device or a technique and an apparent emotional content or honesty. What links these images is not just the form of their method but some genuine involvement in the content they express. The way each image corresponds to the next is not actively contradictory or disjunctive, the clips do not go together well, but they form a sort of outline of referents, an object to be taken away.

Monuments (UK/USA 2010, 16mm to HD, 30 mins)
The artists Robert Smithson and Gordon Matta-Clark are revived from the dead and ejected from their makeshift mausoleums in New York by the forces of redevelopment. Led through New Jersey by a young Dan Graham, they debate their artistic positions with the non-actors they encounter at the sites of their work in New Jersey. Monuments re-enacts the narrative subtext of Post-Minimalism with some of the crude poetry of the American B-movie, drawing on the treatment of the figure in the landscape in North American cinema from sources as diverse as John Ford's Young Mr. Lincoln and Fattie Arbuckle Buster Keaton two-reeler films.
